Information about Local Events and Festivals
Festivals and Fairs in Antequera
Among all the festivals celebrated in Antequera, perhaps the most popular are its fairs. Antequera is one of the few municipalities that has two fairs, one known as the agriculture and livestock fair, and the other the August Fair, where traditional dances are celebrated while people enjoy music and good gastronomy in the streets.
August Fair
The fair was declared a national tourist attraction and its origins date back to 1748, making it one of the oldest in Spanish territory, coinciding for a few days with the fair of Malaga, a good opportunity to enjoy both fairs.
This fair is divided into two parts, the night fair and the day fair. In the morning, people usually go to the bars in the old town where they can eat and drink with background music; during the night, the fairground is the protagonist, where the stalls and mechanical attractions of the fair are located.
The fair features concerts, equestrian exhibitions, activities for children, and of course, fireworks at the beginning and end of the fair on the last night.
Other Celebrations
Carnival
This well-known costume party is also celebrated in Antequera with a costume contest for adults.
Holy Week

On April 20th, a ton of beans are divided into portions for stews and omelettes and distributed for free to visitors to Villanueva de la Concepción in Antequera. If you visit the area, you can buy some souvenirs in the area.
Community Pilgrimage
This pilgrimage is an ancient tradition that dates back to when the municipality's residents went to the countryside to collect plants with medicinal properties. This tradition was lost in the early 20th century but has been recovered, and every April 11th it is celebrated with music, games, and prizes for participants in the various events that take place.
Craft Fair
This craft fair is held in 'Plaza de Castilla' and features crafts made in Antequera and other parts of the world. It is possible to buy handmade items and other works of art.
Agricultural Fair
The fair is held between June 1st and 3rd in the fairground of Parque Norte with different events such as the goat auction, equestrian championships, as well as tourist activities in Antequera and agricultural machinery exhibitions.
